Local Chambers host Workforce Forum
The Greater Bluffton and the Jasper County Chambers of Commerce are hosting a Lowcountry Workforce Forum & Luncheon on February 21, 2017 from 10:30am-1:30pm at Hilton Head Lakes in Hardeeville, SC.
This is a regional forum bringing together local, regional, and state organizations that are addressing workforce issues in the Lowcountry.
This initiative is key for programs at all levels of education not only in this area but in the State of South Carolina as well. Prompting this program is the importance of addressing the lack of skilled labor in our area and helping our businesses gain "work ready" graduates for their operations. Realizing in order to move forward it is necessary to educate and train our younger generations to satisfy and fill in the gaps by identifying what is missing and needed from our businesses.
Over a long span of time, there has been a focus on four year college degrees especially in management. With so much focus toward this area, a considerable gap has occurred in the readiness for our skilled labor jobs. As we have veered away from trade schools, home economics and shop classes we are now feeling the pains of being too one sided.
This forum will consist of several panelists from local, regional and state organizations and agencies that are involved or that are beginning programs to help our youth to be more prepared coming out of high school if they choose not to attend college to be work ready for area business. Also, on the community college level more programs are being developed here locally to offset 4 year degrees. These programs are focusing on areas such as heating & air, construction, transportation, culinary, retail, mechanics, and welding, all of which are being implemented in colleges such as Technical College of the Lowcountry.
Business owners, Managers as well as Community Educators are encouraged and invited to attend. There will be a chance for questions and answers to the panelists. The cost is $30 for local chamber members and $45 for the public. Seating is limited so please reserve a seat now.
