The Town of Bluffton will host its annual Bluffton Christmas parade as a “reverse” parade, Saturday, December 5, as a way to keep its holiday traditions alive while incorporating health and safety precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The reverse parade is a creative way to host a socially distanced celebration as the parade entrants will be stationary on May River Road as parade spectators drive by. Parade entrants will be positioned a minimum of 10 feet from each other and a safe distance from the traveling vehicles. No candy or promotional items may be distributed by the parade entrants.
As with tradition, the parade is December 5, as the parade is always held the first Saturday of December. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and end at noon. The parade will be held rain or shine, unless the Town of Bluffton deems weather conditions as unsafe.
Parade Entrant/Application Process:
Parade entrants must fill out an applications via the Town of Bluffton website: https://www.townofbluffton.sc.gov. Email completed applications to Lyndee Simoneaux, special events coordinator, at lsimoneaux@townofbluffton.com. There is no fee for entry. Please be mindful that parade space is limited to the first 50 entries approved. Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Parade entrants will also be required to sign a liability waiver and to acknowledge that they understand and will abide by the parade rules and regulations. The deadline for applications is November 30, or after the first 50 applications are approved, whichever is soonest.
For more information or guidance, please contact Lyndee Simoneaux at lsimoneaux@ townofbluffton.com or (843.540.1662).
Parade Spectators:
Beginning at 10 a.m., parade spectators will start at the intersection of Bluffton and May River Road, also known as “the 4-way-stop” and continue west on May River Road, finishing at Pin Oak Street and Thomas Heyward Street.
Bluffton’s Christmas Tree:
The Town Christmas Tree will be lit on Friday, December 4. However, due to safety precautions, the Town will stream this event on Facebook Live, instead of having a crowd gather. Mayor Sulka is expected to announce the parade’s Grand Marshal at the tree lighting. Unfortunately, we will not have our customary children’s choir, cocoa and Santa this year out of an abundance of caution to keep us all as healthy as possible through the holidays and beyond.
