Field of Dreams Park Improvement Project
    August 20, 2018
BLUFFTON, S.C. – The Bluffton Community Center Foundation has received a $67,000 grant from the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry to help cover the cost of constructing a covered pavilion with restrooms, which constitutes Phase II of the Field of Dreams Park Improvement Project.
A capital campaign is currently underway to raise the remaining funds needed to build this structure, which will be adjacent to the recently revitalized playground.  The covered pavilion will have picnic tables for gatherings and parties, restrooms, as well as an art wall to showcase local artists’ talents.  The Bluffton Community Center Foundation’s board and committee seek to raise the remaining $100,000 needed for Phase II by the end of October in order to make the pavilion available to the community in the spring of 2019.
The Bluffton Community Center Foundation, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Bluffton, the Town of Bluffton, and the 2018 Hilton Head-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class, completed Phase I of the project, which entailed revitalizing the existing playground and the introduction of the “Imagination Train,” in the spring of 2018.  More than 200 community members attended the Grand Opening celebration in late April.
The Bluffton Field of Dreams was envisioned by the Rotary Club of Bluffton over 14 years ago when Rotary members saw a need for a community center in our growing town.  With help from grants, the Rotary Club, businesses, and individuals, the Bluffton Rotary Community Center was built at the Oscar Frazier Park Complex in 2004.  The facility, along with its adjacent 3-acre field: the “Field of Dreams,” were later donated to the Town of Bluffton with the idea that the area would one day be developed into a state-of-the-art multipurpose public park.
As Bluffton continues to grow, so has its need for additional community park space to maintain the quality of life that makes our town so unique.  In 2016, the Bluffton Rotary Club organized a committee to begin working with the Town of Bluffton and the public to plan for the development of the Bluffton Field of Dreams.  In 2017, with the help of landscape architects Witmer Jones Keefer, other community partners, and input from the public, a Master Plan was created.  Since then, Phase I has been completed, and Phase II is expected to be finished within the next year.
Phase III, which is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2019, will complete the Park Pathway, starting near the playground.  Phase IV will involve the addition of a formal event area and a splash pad.  This phase is likely to begin in 2020.
Funding for the Bluffton Field of Dreams has been and continues to be the result of grassroots community efforts.  It includes grants, in-kind donations, as well as community support from individual donors, community organizations, and businesses.

Various sponsorship levels are available to help with Phase II: construction of the covered pavilion.  For more information, please email buildfieldofdreams@gmail.com or call 843.815.2277.
