    Applicants Sought for Bluffton Town Council Appointed Committees


    Bluffton Town Council is seeking qualified applicants for its boards, commissions and committees.


    The most immediate need for new appointees exists on the Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee, the Municipal Election Commission and the Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals.  The Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee currently has two vacancies, the Municipal Election Commission has one vacancy and the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals has three vacancies. 


    Descriptions and requirements for each committee are below. 


    Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee:

    This committee advises Town Council on the distribution and expenditure of accommodations tax revenue. This revenue is allocated in the form of grants to non-profits who are hosting events or activities which promote local tourism.  Grant applications for funding are due by the last day of each quarter.


    There are seven (7) committee members. The committee is currently seeking applicants from the lodging and hospitality industries. These appointments will fill the remaining terms of the vacant positions. The one hospitality position expires June 30, 2020 and the lodging position expires June 30, 2019.


    Municipal Election Commission

    The three (3) member Municipal Election Commission is required to conduct, supervise and manage municipal, special, and general elections, certify election results, and hear any protests arising from the election per the South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 5-15-90(A). Meetings of the Municipal Election Commission are scheduled as necessary. The current available position expires June 30, 2021.


    Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals

    The nine (9) member Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals is required to hear and decide appeals of orders, decision, or determinations of the Building Official per the South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 6-9-10(A). The Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m., unless otherwise notified. There are (3) current Board vacancies. Each of the term limits for the three vacancies end June 30, 2020. The Board is seeking an engineer, a mechanical contractor and an electrical contractor to fill the specific three openings.


    Applicants are encouraged to apply to the board, commission and committee which is best suited for the applicant’s interests and skills. Applications are kept on file for one year and will be considered for any vacancies for which they may qualify that occur during the time their application is on file.
