Come Be Part of The Crowd
MCAS Beaufort invites everyone to come out on April 22-23 to enjoy a spectacular airshow. The airshow is free and open to the public. There is a fantastic line-up that offers a wide variety of airshow acts performed by well-known pilots such as Patty Wagstaff, Rob Holland, Kyle Franklin and Clemens Kuhlig just to name a few. And as always we are excited for the return of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force and the Blue Angels®.
All local schools have been invited to bring their fifth graders to visit the STEM displays and activities by the following entities: Lockheed Martin, NASA, Stewards of the Sea, NWIC Atlantic, Technical College of the Lowcountry, Beaufort Jasper Water Sewer Authority, Clemson University 4H, and Mighty 8th Air Force Museum. If you are lucky enough to be in the 5th grade and your school is participating in STEM Day taking place during the rehearsal show on Friday you will get a sneak peak of the airshow as well.
The Town of Port Royal will be hosting the Airshow After Party again. The Parris Island Rock Band will kick off the event at 6:30 pm. Food trucks will be available for eating and there will be a beer wagon for all to enjoy while the military performers have a mix and mingle during the rock bands performance.
The Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) demonstration displays the coordinated use of close air support and infantry forces. The men and women of the Marine Corps demonstrate their finely-honed skills, and the aishow audience is in the middle of the action. This is an explosive display of Marine Corps power. A MAGTF is a self-sustaining combined-arms force organized for a specific mission. The MAGTF is made up of four elements; Command, Ground Combat, Aviation Combat and Combat Service Support. The Command element provides control and coordination for the planning and completion of the mission. The Ground Combat element handles land-based operations. It is formed around the infantry. The Aviation Combat element provides air support and is responsible for all air operations within the MAGTF. The Combat Service Support element provides support to the force, enabling long-duration operations. This demonstration is certainly a highlight of the airshow.
The U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, better known as the Blue Angels®, showcase the pride and professionalism of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Blue Angels® exhibit choreographed refinements of skills possessed by all naval aviators. The team will be showcasing the mainstay of modern naval air power operating off U.S. aircraft carriers, the combat-proven F/A/-18 Super Hornet, along with the Marine Corps’ premiere logistics support aircraft, the C-130J Super Hercules, affectionately known as Fat Albert. You will be amazed by the graceful aerobatic maneuvers of the four-jet Diamond Formation, in concert with the fast-paced, high-performance maneuvers of two Solo pilots. Finally, the team illustrates the pinnacle of precision flying, performing maneuvers locked as a unit in the renowned six-jet Delta Formation.
