Business Owners Invited to
Public Information Sessions
on New Business License Law
Hilton Head Island, SC –The Revenue Services Department for the Town of Hilton Head Island is hosting two public information sessions to update business owners about a proposed new business license ordinance.
Those sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, July 13 at 9:30 a.m., and Tuesday, August 3 at 2 p.m. Both sessions will be held in Council Chambers at the Stephen G. Riley Municipal Complex (Town Hall), 1 Town Center Court.
At the sessions, attendees will learn about changes to the Town’s business license ordinance, which is being updated to meet mandates of the S.C. Business License Tax Standardization Act that the General Assembly passed in September 2020. The law – Act 176 – requires every local government with a business license tax to administer the tax in the same way across the state starting January 1, 2022.
Standardizing business license tax administration statewide will make doing business in municipalities easier for businesses, especially those who must obtain licenses in multiple jurisdictions.
“These sessions will be a good opportunity for our local businesses to learn about the standardization act and how it may affect their business license tax. So, we invite those who can to join us for one of these sessions,” said John Troyer, Director of Finance for the Town.
