  • John Kirkland Named CEO and President of Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce

Bluffton, SC (October 22, 2020) – John E. Kirkland has been named President and CEO of the Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce. He will start in the position effective immediately.

John is coming to the chamber from Palmetto State Bank where he has worked for the past 12 years serving as Vice President and most recently as Bluffton’s City Executive Officer. John has been a resident of Bluffton since 2002 when he moved to the area after completing his enlistment in the United States Air Force.  John earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.

John is a current member of the Rotary Club of Bluffton and has served in several capacities, including as its president.  In addition to his service in Rotary, John has also served as Chairman of the Palmetto Electric Trust, on the planning committees of the Historic Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival and the Bluffton Village Festival.

“I am honored to be selected by the Board of Directors to serve in this position and excited about the opportunity to work with the members of the Greater Bluffton Chamber,” John said. “It has been a difficult year for business and the role of a chamber during this time is indispensable.  Bluffton is a strong, resilient community and the chamber will continue to provide all the support we can to help the community to emerge stronger.”

Don Brashears, Board Chairperson for the chamber commented, “John has been a significant asset to our chamber board as Treasurer and this move into the CEO position is a natural fit.  His background in the financial industry, extensive work in customer relations and community service will benefit the chamber immensely”.  “Our board is grateful for John’s acceptance of the opportunity to lead the chamber to the next level of future growth.”

John will be filling the position left vacant earlier this year with the resignation of the previous President and CEO, Shellie West.
